Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. has a contingent job opportunity for a full-time Shipboard Deck Machinery Mechanical Technician II in Norfolk, VA.

Summary: The Shipboard Deck Machinery Mechanical Technician II will provide full-time support with various Deck Machinery mechanical requirements for Mid Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Code 250.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide Full-Time Onsite Support as well as surge support as tasked for following USN/MSC equipment: Sliding Pad eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting groups, and Chocks. Tasking includes Fleet Technical Assistance, Assessments (i.e. TSRA, INSURV), and Availability Support.

  • Conduct Fleet Technical Assistance on-site or via distance support as required, to include engineering/technical evaluations, equipment functional checks, troubleshooting, test, analysis and equipment repair.

  • Conduct Assessments, Inspections, and Grooms determining equipment condition and out of specification settings; observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance, when possible; utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation; evaluate findings and make adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.

  • Provide Onboard Maintenance Training (OBMT) to Ship's Force technicians in the operation, repair, and maintenance. Perform/provide support during shipboard auxiliary systems tasking including TSRA, INSURV and Tech Assist events.

  • Assist Ship's Force technicians and government personnel at assigned locations to analyze and resolve malfunctions detected during equipment operation and test.

  • Analyze and review inspection data to determine source of fault, and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action.

  • Suggest equipment engineering changes toward improving quality and reliability and to facilitate installation, maintenance, and repair.

  • Assist with the preparation and adjudication of Departures from Specifications (DFS), Engineering Support Requests (ESRs), and review of work items/process control procedures (PCPs) when required, including development of risk assessment.

  • Report findings/discrepancies as required to the designated Team Leader and/or customer Branch Head via Material Assessment Form (MAF), Prisms/ETC Software, TA&R, debrief and/or Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) within two working days of completion of task.

  • Provide on the job training to Ship's Force (S/F) during shipboard evolutions.

  • May require travel 10% or greater.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical operation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and assessment of US Navy crane equipment to include, but not limited to: Boat Davit Cranes, Cargo Cranes, and Knuckle-Boom Cranes. Specialized experience shall be demonstrated in troubleshooting and assessment of US Navy Crane Equipment in the official capacity of a SME for either a US Navy Engineering Activity, OEM, or industrial/commercial activity .

  • Experience with regard to ship's Sliding Pad eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting groups, and Chocks. Ability to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for listed equipment.

  • Possess a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, visit processes and reporting methods for visits.

  • Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.

  • Demonstrate ability for interpreting wiring diagrams and control schematics.

  • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.

  • Must possess or ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance

Preferred Qualification:

  • AS, BS or BA degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Engineering Technology from an accredited four-year Engineering School.

  • Minimum of two (2) years prior experience working with US NAVAL Machinery.

ADA Notations:

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.

  • Job may require bending, stooping, lifting.

  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.

  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.

  • May require wearing a respirator.

  • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions.

  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States
