Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Northwest Portland is known for its specialty programs and clinical excellence. Legacy Good Samaritan features nationally renowned doctors in cancer care, kidney transplantations, neurology, ophthalmology, weight-loss surgery, robotic surgery, rehabilitation and more, plus Oregon’s only 24-hour urgent care that’s located alongside an emergency room, with access to emergency care if needed.

Surgical Specialties at GS (6NW and 6C) are located on the sixth floor of Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center. Number of beds: Surgical Specialties at GS has 17 private beds (6NW) and 13 private beds (6C).
Capacity for 17 patients to have remote telemetry monitoring on 6NW.

Primary patient population/diagnoses:
1) Surgical Patients related to: Neurology, orthopedics, podiatry, urology, bariatric, and general surgery
2) Stable patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring
3) End-of-life care when transferring to home or an inpatient hospice setting is not realistic based on life expectancy
4) Gastrointestinal disorders including, but not limited to, Crohn’s disease and bowel obstruction
5) Pulmonary including, but not limited to, COPD and respiratory isolation
6) Psychiatric patients requiring acute medical intervention
7) Overflow medical, oncology patients, room availability permitting
8) Pain management including PCA and/or epidural medication administration
9) Patient and family teaching
10) Wound care management
11) Treatments including, but not limited to:
Administration of medications
Blood product administration
Continuous cardiac monitoring / telemetry
Discharge planning
IV Therapy management, to include central line and port management
Non-invasive monitoring
Nutritional therapy to include TPN and enteral feedings
Pre and post-operative acute care
Respiratory treatments
Wound care management and treatment including wound vacuums


Responsible for patient care within an assigned department/unit and participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of the clinical manager or designee as defined by the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse. The RN Staff Nurse assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Legacy Health System including those for patient assessment and transfer.



As required by licensure. BSN preferred.


One-year registered nursing experience or completion of either the Legacy Health RN Residency program or a nursing program that is equivalent in content, curriculum and duration. Additional clinical experience requirements may vary dependent upon the specific department in which the position is utilized.


Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
