The Human Resources Generalist performs a wide variety of duties with a high degree of independence and autonomy on a day-to-day basis. Sample duties include but are not limited to recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, offboarding, performance management, processing employee life cycle changes, employee relations, administering pay, benefits, leave administration and interpreting campus policies and practices. Ensures HR systems data integrity, sound record maintenance, employment law compliance and supports payroll/benefits processes as needed. May supervise and direct subordinate staff. Reports to the Director of Human Resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions, collaborates with hiring managers and search committees to determine the skills and competencies required for position openings.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Implements new hire orientation, onboarding, offboarding, and performs exit interviews.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resources programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, leaves, disciplinary matters, disputes, investigations, performance management, and staff training.
- Handles employment related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Process Core Faculty, Adjunct, and Student Worker Contracts.
- Coordinate the unemployment benefit claims process.
- Manage Everfi training system for mandatory sexual harassment and FERPA training to ensures compliance.
- Organizes and executes events designed to enhance employee morale while building a strong sense of community.
- Experience interpreting and analyzing HR data.
- Generates HR reports as requested by campus management, federal and local government entities.
- Create and review metrics to measure effectiveness of recruiting processes, reasons for exits, and costs related concerns.
- Develop, implement, interpret and communicate HR policies to supervisors, managers and employees.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Recommends best practices, reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Coordinates employee accommodation requests.
- Coordinate employee requests for ADA related accommodations with the CIIS director of accessibility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or closely related field.
- At least two years of human resource management experience preferred.
- PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in a multi-faceted human resources operation.
- Prior experience in higher education highly desired.
- Experience with an HRIS system and data entry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong cross functional relationships needed to resolve issues and advance HR priorities.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with a high degree of professionalism.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.

- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the CIIS HRIS and talent management systems.

NOTES TO CANDIDATE
Working Conditions -- Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically, Monday through Friday.
