Job Description

The Principal Supplier Quality Engineer drives customer satisfaction and continual improvement in accomplishing ESAs strategic plan through monitoring, managing and resolving issues related to Supplier quality performance.  The Principal SQE is proficient in developing Supplier relationships, auditing Suppliers capabilities, capacities, products, processes and procedures, coaching Supplier improvements, leading the disposition of Supplier rejections, and coordinating Supplier corrective actions.  The Principal SQE follows trends in the industry to identify opportunities, waste, and inefficiencies and proposes suggestions on how to act on these trends.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

This is not intended to be all-inclusive, and employees will be required to carry out any and all duties necessary for the needs of the organization.

  1. Conduct Source Inspections, Incoming Receiving Inspections, and Material Surveys to ensure internal and external customers quality and technical requirements are adhered to by Suppliers
  2. Review Supplier First Article Inspections (FAIs) IAW AS9102
  3. Assign, monitor and close Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) while ensuring appropriate Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) has been identified and addressed to reduce and/or eliminate future occurrence
  4. Issue and disposition Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCRs)
  5. Initiate and participate in Continuous Improvement activities to improve Supplier performance, productivity, and processes
  6. Monitor quality performance metrics for assigned Suppliers and develop Return to Green Plans
  7. Lead activities such as Supplier qualification, Supplier development, and Supplier Zero Defect Programs (ZDP)
  8. Ensure compliance of suppliers through leading and participating in supplier audits and identify and manage Supplier risks
  9. Coach Supplier Operations Team members on Quality Management System requirements and best practices
  10. Lead the Material Review Board (MRB)
  11. Provides expertise and guidance in interpreting policies, regulatory and/or governmental regulations, agency guidelines,  and customer and/or government requirements to ensure compliance within internal Supplier Quality Engineering Procedures
  12. Accountable for building Supplier partnerships in the deployment of lean, high quality, high velocity supply chain practices

  • Completes tasks with no Manager oversight
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Provide mentoring to assigned Suppliers
  • Provide mentoring to team members
  • Collaborate with internal ESA/ESL organizations to identify solutions

Qualifications

List any unique working conditions or physical demands in this job:

  • Bachelor's degree - Engineering/Manufacturing or equivalent Technical degree
  • 17 to 20 years of overall quality experience with strong focus on Supplier Quality
  • Ability to travel up to 30% - U.S. Passport
  • Ability to read Blue Prints, Engineering Drawings
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication (Technical Writing experience a plus)
  • Problem solving, analytical, and process improvement skills / experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality management methodologies such as:
    • Six-sigma, Lean, Kaizen
    • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
    • Control Plans
    • ISO-9001/AS-9100
    • Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge of:
    • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
    • Metallurgy
    • Inspection Equipment
    • Castings and Forgings
    • AWS Welding
    • Surface Finishing
    • Plating and Coating
  • Preferred Knowledge of
    • IPC-610
    • IPC-620
    • J-STD 001
    • Electronic Assembly manufacturing to include Printed Circuit Boards
    • Cable and Harness manufacturing
