The Health Care Administration (HCA)- Health Equity Intern will be part of the HCA Equity team; working alongside the HCA's Equity Director and Equity Specialist to support efforts and to execute business plans, projects and initiatives that make equity an integral part of all of HCA's business.

The Health Equity Intern will develop an in depth understanding of the Department of Human Service (DHS) Health Care Administration, the foundations of inequity, and gain the knowledge and skills needed to build more equitable, sustainable systems. They will assist the Equity Director, Specialist, and other equity staff with duties related to administering the HCA Equity Committee and executing duties under equity strategic plans, projects and initiatives. This position will help will address inequities including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, disability or culture in all areas of HCA. This work includes support in developing and executing recommendations and action items set forth by HCA leadership and the HCA Equity Committee.

Work will be focus on activities/projects that address internal and external inequities which include helping HCA staff learn skills and knowledge surrounding inequity; helping to strengthen a focus on equity within each area of HCA's work through working with the Equity Committee; and producing written research summaries and information briefs about projects and activities that support the advancement of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

Internship Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Provide support, serve as a resource, and assist in the execution of HCA DEI initiatives, goals and projects ensuring the advancement of equitable outcomes for all people served by the programs administered by HCA, and for all of HCA's employees.

• Co-lead the operations for HCA Equity Committee. Serve as a point of contact for committee members and potential members to provide information on the committee.

• Coordinate the implementation and the maintenance of the HCA Equity library.

Qualifications

• Understanding of intercultural competency

• High comfortability level having conversations around issues such as equity, inequity, and disparities

• Ability to deliver challenging information about inequities and bias

Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate 4 year or graduate level degree in Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Psychology, Human Resources, Cultural Studies or related field
  • Self-directed individual
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills

Additional Requirements
  • Must be in academic years of sophomore, junior, senior, or be attaining diploma by May 2024
  • Must provide unofficial transcript to show proof of school enrollment
  • Must be willing to reside in Minnesota for the duration of internship
  • Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
