SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Building Operations Supervisor, the Custodial Foreman is responsible for providing a clean, healthy, attractive and safe, odor-free environment in their assigned buildings. The duties include coordinating evening custodial staff, monitoring staff activities and participating in the cleaning, preventive maintenance, coordinating the set up and take down activities for day events, and monitoring building security.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Cleans classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, stairways, offices and all areas in the buildings daily.

  • Completes assigned work orders from Facilities Manager and Building Operations Supervisor.

  • Mops, sweeps, empties trash, pencil sharpeners, and disinfects restrooms.

  • Fulfills all regulatory requirement trainings and certifications.

  • Performs mechanical duties including operating fire alarm systems and boiler inspections. Cleans and organizes machines and equipment.

  • Cleans unit ventilators, lubricates fans, motors, pumps, and compressors.

  • Conducts floor cleaning equipment inspection.

  • Responsible for temporary employee work duties.

  • Restores and replaces paper towels, soap, toilet paper, light bulbs and other consumable products as needed.

  • Installs various filters.

  • Monitors facilities and building security.

  • Sets up and takes down furniture, chairs, bleachers etc. for evening events in the building.

  • Responsible for building security and night lock-up.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning and preserving floors, whiteboards, carpets, HVAC vents, furniture, walls, fixtures., blinds, sinks, and windows.

  • Knowledge of the use and operations of cleaning equipment, tools, materials and supplies used in custodial work.

  • Knowledge of applicable custodial operations.

  • Knowledge of operation of all equipment required in the performance of the job.

  • Knowledge of all safety precautions and risk management procedures and proper lifting mechanics.

  • Knowledge of boiler operation.

  • Knowledge of the application, use and proper storage of all chemicals used in the performance of the job.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Building Operations Supervisor, building administrators, building staff, students, and operations personnel.

  • Leading, delegating, and monitoring staff activities and functions to assure work standards and compliance with departmental work orders, schedules, responsibilities, and District's cleaning standards.

  • Coordinating the set up and tear down of equipment, supplies or materials needed for evening events or activities.

  • Performing routine repairs and general maintenance within the facility.

  • Cleaning and caring for the appearance of building areas and surfaces.

  • Using tools, chemicals, and cleaning equipment.

  • Reading, understanding, and following safety procedures and written instructions.

  • Using a variety of cleaning techniques utilizing appropriate chemicals and cleaning equipment.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Directly oversees the daily work of other custodial employees in the building.

  • Has responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and work direction of these employees in accordance with School District policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing, hiring, corrective action and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing performance feedback; addressing complaints and resolving problems.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS


  • Work is performed occasionally in both wet and/or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts and sometimes in high, precarious places, near fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Vibration and potential for electric shock are also part of the working environment. Chemicals used in performance of the job pose potential risks for inhalation of fumes, chemical burns, and skin absorption.



WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • The work environment involves exposure to equipment, materials and situations that requires following safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment or safety procedures.



EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • HS Diploma or GED and Class 2 Boiler License

  • At least one (1) year of prior work related custodial or maintenance experience is required to gain entry to the job.



CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, REGISTRATION


  • 2nd Class Boiler License and CPO license
