Description: The Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute (ODBI) was recently launched to ignite new directions in research, education, and innovation at the intersection of Engineering and the Life Sciences. ODBI is evolving rapidly, including launching various programs and building physical and programmatic infrastructure. ODBI is seeking a Director of Scientific Operations, in the area of bioengineering, who can work closely with faculty and staff to build and support ODBI's research and education mission. ODBI will move into a state-of-the-art building during Fall 2025, complete with core facilities including Cell Engineering, Microscopy, Maker Space, and Teaching Labs. The Director of Scientific Operations will be responsible for helping with the strategic set-up and operational efficiency of these new facilities. In addition, ODBI has begun a new bioengineering Ph.D program, and the Director of Scientific Operations will play a role in driving success towards our educational mission, including integrating teaching activities with the broader ODBI research facilities. Overall, the Director of Scientific Operations will manage processes, optimize resources and infrastructure, and foster an open and highly collaborative environment conducive to innovative research and education. We seek an accomplished individual, with a demonstrated record of excellence and leadership, who can develop and implement innovative research and educational programs across undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate training. The candidate must have the capacity to help envision and develop new programming, coordinate and grow new interdisciplinary facilities and initiatives, and seek broad synergy and impact across related aspects of ODBI programming. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Research Work collaboratively with Director, faculty and staff of the Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute to help guide the creation of cutting edge research and teaching facilities Academic curriculum/programing: Help facilitate research-oriented academic programming for undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. The successful candidate is expected to place the emerging Bioengineering education and outreach programs in context with ODBI's priority in the area of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute will support the lecturer's efforts with the necessary resources to maximize impact across a broad range of communities and demographics. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. in Biology, Bioengineering, or related Engineering and Physical Sciences discipline. At least 5 years of professional experience directing research or educational programs in a university setting. Collaborative mindset and exceptional stakeholder management skills. Experience in strategic planning towards achieving broader mission Experience collaborating with and leading diverse teams with an inclusive and growth mindset. Strong verbal and written communication, project management and decision-making skills; ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels; and experience in developing and managing new projects.
