The Lead Prototyping Engineer will play a crucial role in our rapid prototyping business unit, leveraging expert-level skills in CAD modeling, design, and prototyping to contribute to complex projects such as the development of mechanical simulators and other innovative solutions. This role requires a hands-on approach and extensive experience in mechanical and electrical prototyping, with a strong emphasis on practical execution and technical problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Design and Modeling: Develop detailed CAD models and design plans for various components and systems, focusing on functionality, efficiency, and manufacturability.
- Prototype Development: Lead the creation and refinement of prototypes, ensuring that all prototypes meet design specifications and project requirements.
- Material and Component Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and source the necessary materials and components required for prototype development.
- Technical Consultation and Collaboration: Act as a key technical advisor and collaborator during project planning and brainstorming sessions. Work closely with machinists, engineers, and other technical staff to refine designs and troubleshoot issues.
- Project Planning Support: Assist in project planning by providing expert insights into timelines, technical requirements, and potential challenges.
- Electrical Implementation: Execute high-quality electrical work for prototypes, including wiring and basic electrical system setups, while collaborating with electrical engineers for complex schematic designs.
- Quality Assurance and Testing: Conduct rigorous testing and quality assurance checks to ensure that all prototypes function as intended and adhere to safety standards.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of design processes, test results, and final implementations to ensure continuity and improvement in future projects.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Technology or similar degree preferred
- Proven experience in CAD modeling, mechanical design, and prototyping.
- Strong practical knowledge of mechanical systems and electrical components.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
