Lab Technician



The Lee Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a laboratory technician who will contribute to our research in developmental gene regulation. Responsibilities will include independent and collaborative bioinformatics and molecular biology experiments, as well as assisting in aquatic animal care (zebrafish and Xenopus frogs). Successful applicants will have experience in following and successfully executing laboratory protocols, strong verbal and written communication skills, maintaining a high level of organization and record keeping, and attention to detail.


Job Summary

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.


Essential Functions

Computer-based analysis of data, performing molecular biology laboratory experiments, and aquatic animal husbandry at the level of IACUC standards.


Physical Effort

Daily computer use for extended periods. Daily, continuous use of scientific equipment, e.g., pipeters, micromanipulators, and machine consoles in support of research experiments. Animal feeding ~30 minutes 3-5 times/week (repetitive motions across hundreds of animal tanks). 1-3 hours per week participating in cleaning and lifting animal tanks 6-30 lbs.
