Overview

The Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) works in a consultative and collaborative role as an integral member of the primary care team. They provide behavioral health interventions to primary care patients with the goal of improving overall health of patients.

The BHC helps address a broad spectrum of behavioral health needs in the primary care patient population. Their goal is to aid in early identification and provide problem focused interventions that promote wellness and relieve symptoms. Behavioral issues that are addressed may be related to physical or mental health conditions. They provide assessment, management and triage of psychological and social problems in the clinic patient population.

This position requires advanced level skill in delivering evidence-based interventions targeted to improve overall health for patients with a variety of emotional and behavioral problems. The work includes the BHC meeting with patients individually for an assessment and then providing recommendations to the primary care team to enhance the patient's care plan. When indicated, the BHC may also work with patients for several subsequent sessions to provide on-going skills training and coaching to improve health and functioning. The BHC also supports helping patients, who require services not provided in the LMG clinic, to make a smooth transition to care with community partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Doctor of Psychology (PhD or PsyD), Master of Social Work, Master in Professional Counseling, Master of Family Therapy degree from a nationally accredited institution, fulfilling the requirements for licensure in the state of Oregon and/or Washington.

Licensure:

Must hold a current valid Oregon and/or Washington License as Psychologist, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LMHC.

Experience:

Minimum of two years of clinical experience or healthcare related field.

Skills:

  • Ability to diagnose common mental health problems. Able to conduct solution focused interventions. Modalities including ACT, CBT, CBT-I, and psychodynamic psychotherapy are all applicable.
  • Recognizes and advocates for patients regarding behavioral health strategies/interventions.
  • Promotes health behavior change through evaluation, brief intervention and education.
  • Works with multidisciplinary team to help support the patient’s health. Coordinates with LMG providers and community partners to refer for appropriate mental health therapy.
  • Demonstrates competencies in assessment of emotional, cognitive and behavioral disorders in child, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients (depending upon population served by specific position).
  • Demonstrates competency in assessment of cognitive and psychological problems associated with, and/or exacerbating medical conditions.
  • Experience with working with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Skilled in case conceptualization and consultation.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work at the fast pace of primary care.
